Time line - Leslie Wards life

1888 - Phillip Leslie Moffat Ward was born in Worcestershire on 2nd April.
1895 - Moved to Bournemouth with parents.
1903 - Went to Drummond Road School of Art in Bournemouth after winning an art scholarship.
1910 - Won gold medal of composition in national competition.
1911 - Joined staff at Bournemouth Municipal College of Art as full time teacher.
1916 - Exhibited at the Royal Academy "A Jetty on the Humber. Low Tide".
1916 - Elected as associate member of the Royal Society of Painter and Etchers and displayed in their annual exhibition.
1916 - Received the honour of A.R.E.
1917 - Exhibited at Royal Academy with "The Condemned Dwelling 1916", "A Little Pier near Vauxhall" and "Poole Harbour from Ballard down"
1919 - Exhibited at Royal Academy with "Under the Stern. A Poole Shipyard" and "Near Camden"
1920 - Bournemouth Arts Club started.  Leslie Ward was a founder member (He exhibited every year from 1920 to 1973).
1920 - Wrote a chapter on Etching as a decoration for a book by Hesketh Hubbard entitled "On Making and Collecting Etchings".
1922 - Exhibited at Royal Academy a "Medway Shipyard-Rochester"
1923 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "The Chalk Cliffs at Ballard Down - Dorset"
1925 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "The Medway near Halling Kent"
1926 - Exhibited at Royal Academy  "Worth Matravers Dorset".
1927 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Ruined Cement Works on the Medway" and "Finsbury Shore".
1927 - Exhibited with other local artists at the Medici Gallery in Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth.
1930 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Blackmans Stone Farm - Dorset"
1930 - Held is first solo exhibition in Bournemouth.
1931 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Chalk Cliffs near Swanage" and "In Windspit near Worth - Dorset" and "Near Bradle - Dorset"
1932 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Medway Cement Works"
1934 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Broadgate Ludlow", "Harp Lane - Ludlow"
1936 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "A Dorset Village"
1936 - Became a full member of the Royal Society of Painters and Etchers.
1936 - Three designs of "Poole Key", "Poole Harbour Office" and "Corfe Castle" are used as plate designs by Poole Pottery.
1937 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Old Hastings"
1938 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Beachside Booths - Hastings" and "A Fishermans beach - Hastings"
1939 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Dickens House - Old Hastings"
1940 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Fishermans Net Sheds - Hastings"
1942 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Evening Rock-a-Nore", "A Purbeck Bakery" and "A Southeast Fishing Port"
1943 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "The Long man of the downs"
1944 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Storm in a Stone Wall Country"
1947 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "The Langdales from near Tarn-Hows"
1948 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "The Coniston Old Man"
1949 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Harvest Time Dorset" and "Rhythmic Landscape - West Moorland"
1950 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "The Chesil Beach"
1951 - Exhibited at The London Exhibition of the Society of Graphic Art.
1953 - Retires from the Bournemouth Municipal College and School of Art.
1954 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Foot of the Hill - Chesilton, Portland"
1954 - Exhibited at the Bournemouth College of Art with local scenes and subjects from Spain and Holland.
1956 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "Roof and Patios - Cordoba Spain"
1956 - Exhibited at the Red House Museum Christchurch and gave a talk on "A painters search for subjects" which included a slide show of his travels.
1959 - Exhibited at Royal Academy "A Spanish Bridge"
1978 - Bournemouth Art Club and the Russell Cotes Museum hold an exhibition of his work at the Russell Cotes - this was his last one.
1978 - Past away on 16th November - Aged 90 years old.
